What’s wrong with the Web Design Industry

This is one of the reasons I do what I do, because I get very passionate (slightly mad 😆) about the fact that people have wasted their hard-earned money on a website they didn’t even own and didn’t like.

It goes a little something like this:

“I have a website but I can’t edit it.”

or

“I have a website but it’s old and outdated and I never really liked it to begin with.”

or

“I’m sick of having to pay a web designer to edit little things like my opening hours.”

Now, don’t get me wrong. There are some amazing Web Design Agencies and Developers out there with the right intentions.

But sadly, I’ve heard far too many stories from people who were left feeling like they didn’t understand their own website, couldn’t make changes themselves, or simply didn’t feel like their website reflected their business.

And I don’t understand HOW someone can take THOUSANDS of dollars from someone and not deliver something they genuinely love.

I believe a lot of Web Design agencies, especially in the early 2000s and 2010s, capitalised on the knowledge gap around the internet.

The internet was new and unfamiliar. Websites were often heavily code-based, and most business owners simply didn’t know how any of it worked.

So the expertise sat with the web designer, and the client had to rely on them for everything.

And honestly? I think that model has gone on for far too long.

That’s not the way the internet needs to work anymore.

You don’t need to have a fully coded website that only your developer knows how to use.

I actually chose NOT to dive into the world of coding websites because I wanted to design websites that I could hand over to my clients, so they could actually use them, understand them and edit them themselves.

And that’s what my clients love.

They love hearing that I design their website so that they can take full creative control after we launch.

They can edit their words and images.

They can change their opening hours.

They can make updates without having to pay a web designer $100 every time they need to change one tiny thing. 😆

Of course, I’m always here to support them if they need bigger edits or additions, like a new page or functionality.

But I’m not the gatekeeper to their website.

They are.

Now, don’t get me wrong. It might cost you $4K–$5K to work with me to design your website, but:

• You own it.
• You know how to edit it because I teach you.
• We don’t launch until you LOVE it.
• After 5 years of experience doing this, I’ve created a process that is tried, true, tested and LOVED.
• I listen to your vision for your business and your website. I don’t fit your business into a template. I expand it into a unique online offering that honours your business and what makes it yours.
• You don’t have to come back to me for every little edit because you know how to do it yourself.

My business model isn’t to create an ongoing customer who always has to pay me.

My business model is to create a website that you are IN LOVE WITH, and give you all the tools and knowledge you need to run it yourself.

That’s the kind of web design I believe in.
